WordPress powers a large share of the web because it is flexible, open source and easy to edit. Built badly, it can also be slow, fragile and insecure. We build WordPress websites the careful way: a lightweight custom theme, a minimal set of well-maintained plugins and an editing experience your team will actually enjoy using.
Who it is for#
This service suits businesses and organisations that need a professional, content-led website they can update themselves. For example:
- Small and medium businesses replacing an outdated or slow website.
- Professional services firms, consultants and studios that publish regular articles or case studies.
- Charities, community groups and membership organisations that need simple, reliable editing.
- Teams currently struggling with a heavy page builder or a theme that fights them at every turn.
What is included#
- Discovery and planning: goals, audience, sitemap and content plan.
- Information architecture and wireframes for the key page templates.
- Custom visual design for mobile and desktop, with two rounds of revisions.
- Custom WordPress theme built for the block editor, with up to 10 unique page templates.
- Custom blocks and patterns so you can build new pages without breaking the design.
- Blog or news section with categories, tags and sensible archive pages.
- Contact forms with spam protection and email notifications.
- Accessibility working towards WCAG 2.2 AA throughout.
- Performance optimisation: image handling, caching guidance and Core Web Vitals testing.
- Security hardening: careful plugin choices, secure configuration and least-privilege user roles.
- Technical SEO: clean URLs, metadata, XML sitemap, structured data and search console setup.
- Content entry for the pages you supply.
- Documentation, training and a post-launch support window.
Process and timeline#
A typical WordPress website takes four to eight weeks, depending on the number of templates, the amount of content and the speed of feedback.
- Discovery and proposal (week 1): we agree scope, sitemap and schedule.
- Wireframes and design (weeks 1–3): structure first, then visual design, with your review at each stage.
- Development (weeks 3–6): theme, blocks and content built on a private staging site you can visit at any time.
- QA (weeks 6–7): cross-browser, device, accessibility and performance testing, followed by your acceptance testing.
- Launch and handover (weeks 7–8): deployment, redirects, search setup, training and documentation.
The full approach is described on our process page.
